Between stations
The cloud tram slows between stops. Three passengers remain: a student delivering drawings, an older man carrying flowers, and a dancer returning from a performance. The announcement asks for patience. The student reaches for a phone, the dancer calculates the next connection, and the older man sets his flowers beside him.
An unnamed window
The older man points through the window: the lights below resemble a swimming fish. The student looks up, then looks again. The dancer traces an arc along the bright line. As they describe the same lights, the fish becomes a river, then a melody without words.
After the doors open
The tram moves again. The drawings are still late, and the dancer has missed the connection. No problem has magically disappeared. But the student sketches a fish on the back of a page, the dancer records the rhythm of the wheels, and the older man leaves one small flower on the empty seat. Each arrives carrying something extra.
Make it a small practice
- Give an ordinary journey an observation theme: windows, signs, or shadows.
- Note three details without recording identifiable information about strangers.
- Write a short piece beginning, “I expected … but then I noticed …”.
