Stop one: the blue waiting room

The waiting-room clock has no numbers, only tide, dusk, and first star. You write your name on a thin ticket, but the ferryman asks whom your letter is for. The water brightens along the shore like a fine line drawn across black paper.

Stop two: drawers inside the tower

Inside the tower, small drawers replace display cases. Each holds an unfinished letter. The keeper invites you to choose a sentence you would like to continue and copy it onto transparent paper. As the aurora passes through, the words briefly change color.

Stop three: the return letter

Before leaving, you post the letter in a box marked Return. It will not arrive immediately. The keeper says it is delivered when this night comes back to you in ordinary life. Keep a tower window, a line of water, and the sentence you finally finished on your postcard.

Make it a small practice

  1. Draw a map of the destination with only three stops.
  2. Put a sound and a small object into your journal.
  3. Write a three-line postcard about the scene you want to keep.
