Narrow the question
Choose a sports clip you may watch and begin with the whole scene. On a second viewing, follow one person: where they wait and how their position changes when the ball or other people move. Suspend judgment for a moment.
Draw three position changes
Use a simple rectangle for the playing area and three dots for that person’s positions. Connect them with arrows. An important movement may happen away from the most obvious action. Treat the drawing as an observation, not an authoritative tactical conclusion.
Leave a question beside the diagram
Write a question beside the diagram, such as why the player paused at one point. Watch again for details that support or challenge your guess. When sharing, separate the movement you observed from the reason you inferred.
Make it a small practice
- Choose one subject rather than tracking everyone.
- Draw three positions and the lines connecting them.
- Write your observation and your interpretation separately.
